Most of the 218 club members gathered this evening in 1971, for the first official buffet dinner and the election of officers at the new Bermuda Run Country Club.
Bermuda Run was constructed on the site of the former T. Holt Haywood estate adjoining Tanglewood Park.
William S. Smith Jr. was elected president. The election of officers was conducted by Norwood Robinson.
Some remnants of the Haywood home were used in the clubhouse, such as the mantelpiece from the library. It was relocated to the clubhouse sitting room. Also, slate from the roof of the Haywood home was used as a backdrop for the fireplace in the ballroom.
Billy Satterfield conceived and developed the club, and was present at the opening event. He introduced various staff members, such as the club manager, Bill Walker, and Bud Crater, golf pro.
Billy Satterfield is shown at right in the above photo, with Grady Shumate at left. The photo was made in 1970, on the site where the club was built.
Some of the people attending the dinner planned to build or buy homes in Bermuda Run.
The interior was decorated with an island garden theme, to compliment the view of the golf course and the landscape, as shown below.
