September 25, 1928 was an important date to several people. For Miss Ledbetter Coggins of Stoneville, and Mr. Gerry Prillaman of Charlotte, it was their wedding day.
For Winston-Salem and North Carolina, it was the state’s first aerial wedding, and it took place in a Fokker airplane above Winston-Salem.
How did the couple rate such a special venue for their wedding? It’s all about connections, and Miss Coggins was a friend of the pilot, Lewin McGinnes.
The photograph above was made in 1930, and shows a Fokker airplane before its trip to Myrtle Beach from Miller Municipal Airport.
