Katherine Margaret Reid was born on this day in 1905, in Stokes County, to William Henry and Maggie Apperson Reid.
She spent her early years in Pilot Mountain, then she taught in the public schools of Roanoke Rapids, Pilot Mountain, and Forsyth County.
For the young people who frequented the Public Library in the 1950s and 1960s, Miss Reid was a familiar face in the Children’s Room. Miss Reid was the Children’s Librarian at the Public Library, until her retirement in 1967.
Miss Reid held storytime for the children, helped them with the records on the turntables, encouraged summer reading with intriguing contests, designed interesting displays, and suggested books for reading.
Miss Reid passed away in 2000.
