First Baptist Church was organized in 1871 and the first church building was constructed in 1876. The church was located on Second Street.
A new church was built in 1901, next to the old church. Dr. Henry A. Brown was pastor during this time.
Land for a new church was secured on West Fifth Street and the cornerstone was laid in 1924. The first service in the new church was held on this day in 1925.
