Barbara Mildred Lasater Hanes was born on this day in 1920, in Winston-Salem, to Robert Edward and Nancy Lybrook Lasater.
Barbara was well-known as “Bob-Ed,” and she attended the local schools, the National Cathedral School in Washington, DC, and Finch College in New York.
She was married to Frank Borden Hanes in 1942.
Bob-Ed participated in a wide-range of community organizations, and served on the boards for several of these organizations. She was particularly involved in the boards for Bowman Gray School of Medicine and Amos Cottage Rehabilitative Hospital. She helped to raise funds for many organizations, including Amos Cottage.
She was the first woman director of First Wachovia Corporation. She was a past president of the Junior League and a trustee of Old Salem Inc.
Bob-Ed passed away in 1990.
