On this day in 1950, Winston-Salem Cardinals ace relief baseball pitcher, Bobby Gene Tiefenauer, married Rosemarie Henson.
The marriage took place at the ball field, Southside Park, at home plate before the baseball game. One of the gifts bestowed on the couple was a honeymoon trip to Carolina Beach.
Tiefenauer was a native of Missouri, and made his major league debut in 1952, for the St. Louis Cardinals. During his career, he also played for the Cleveland Indians, Houston Colts, Milwaukee Braves, New York Yankees, and the Chicago Cubs. His last major league appearance was in 1968.
When he retired from the major leagues as a player, he was a minor and major league coach for the Philadelphia Phillies. And, he was elected to the International League Hall of Fame in 2008.
Bobby returned to his hometown of Desloge, Missouri. He passed away in 2000. His wife, Rosemarie, still lives in Desloge, as far as is known.
