John Clifton Kiger was born on this day in 1931, in Surry County, to Will Ray and Lula Ashburn Kiger.
He came to Winston-Salem when he was about 21 years old, and was an engineer for Western Electric until 1961. He then began working as manager for Carolina Medical Electronics Inc., a firm that manufactured a blow-flow meter that he helped build.
John was a member of the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County school board from 1968 to 1972, and served as chairman of the board.
He was elected to the Forsyth County Board of Commissioners, and served on the board and as chairman from 1972 to 1976.
John was a member of College Park Baptist Church, where he served as Chairman of the Board of Deacons and taught a Sunday School class.
He died in 1976 when his motorcycle was hit by a truck.

I was working as an assistant Forsyth County attorney when John Kiger died. Wasn’t his son killed also?
Thanks.

Ed,
John Kiger was riding a motorcycle that was struck from behind. He was killed instantly. His son, Kelly, was riding on a motorcycle ahead of John and was not injured.
