On this day in 1936, petitions were put into circulation to ask the Board of Aldermen to request Duke Power Company to make the change to bus service from streetcars.
Buses and streetcars were both operating in the city at this time.
By December of 1936, the streetcars were ending their runs, and turning over the public transportation reins to buses.
