Thomas Maslin was born on this day in 1874, in Baltimore, to William H. and Alice Virginia McConky Maslin.
He was educated in the public schools and at Baltimore City College.
Thomas came to Winston-Salem in 1895, at the age of 21, and was connected with Wachovia Bank for 15 years. He began working as a bookkeeper, and was secretary, assistant treasurer and trust officer until 1910, when he resigned.
He married Martha Murfree Maney.
Thomas and his cousin, George W. Maslin, organized the Merchants National Bank in 1911. Thomas was vice president and cashier of the organization, and he succeeded George W. Maslin as its president in 1917. The name of the bank was changed to Merchants Bank and Trust Company. The bank failed in the late 1920s.
Thomas served as an alderman and a member of the school board.
Thomas organized the Phoenix Company Insurance Agency in the 1930s, and was president and treasurer of the company when he passed away in 1954.
