Dallas Conrad Petree Jr. was born on this day in 1940, in Winston-Salem, to Dallas Conrad Petree Sr. and Cleo Dunn Petree.
Dallas graduated from Northwest High School and Wake Forest University. He served in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany.
Dallas joined the staff of the Forsyth County Public Library in 1963, and worked there for 26 years.
Dallas was well-known throughout the city because he regularly met many residents on his trips in the library’s bookmobile. It was said that he knew his clients by name, and he knew what type of books they liked to read. Dallas is seen sitting at the desk in the above photo.
Dallas was active in several musical groups. He sang for the Piedmont Opera Theatre and the Winston-Salem Symphony Chorale, and he sang in the choir at Centenary Methodist Church.
Dallas passed away in 1989.
