Dr. John Bynum was born on this day in 1860, in Stokes County, to Dr. Hampton Wade and Mary Speas Bynum. His family moved to Winston-Salem in 1869, where his father practiced medicine until his death in 1880.
John Bynum attended the Salem Boys School and began his study of medicine while he was connected with a drug store. He received his medical degree from New York University in 1892 and began his medical practice in Winston-Salem.
Dr. Bynum was a general practitioner for 41 years, and he was a member of the Forsyth County Board of Health.
Dr. Bynum married Eva Hall, from Rockingham County. He passed away in 1933.
