On this day in 1955, the Tanglewood Park swimming pool opened. The temperatures on opening day were in the 90s, so the cool water was refreshing.
The swimming pool had four sections: a deep-water diving area, a large chest-deep swimming area, a shallow-water pool for children, and a separate wading pool for toddlers.
One of the features of the Tanglewood Park pool was the pool-side terrace with a soda fountain and tables for bathers to rest and enjoy their snacks.
There was also a large, grassy area nearby the pool for swimmers to sunbathe or just socialize.
The pool could accommodate 1,000 people.
John Tandy was pool director, and Bob Mayer was assistant director.
The pool opened for the summer season the following weekend, with the hours from 12 to 8.
