On this day in 2011, the Winston-Salem Journal announced that the Salem Lake Dam is being replaced and construction will take about 12 months.
During the replacement process, the lake will be lowered 12 feet. It will be closed to fishing and boating while the lake is lowered, but Salem Lake Trail will remain open when stream flow conditions allow.
The dam was repaired and as of this writing in 2014, the lake is open for fishing and boating.
The photograph shows the lake and the dam after the repairs.
