State Theatre opened on this day in 1930, at 447 North Liberty Street.
The lot at the corner of Main and Fifth Street underwent many changes over the years. The Elks Auditorium was built at this location in 1903. It tragically burned in 1916 (see feature on April 27th for the details).
The Elks Auditorium was replaced by the Auditorium Theatre, and this venue was replaced by the State Theatre in 1930.
The State Theatre closed in 1952, and the building was converted to a furniture store, named State Furniture. This block was later demolished for a parking deck.
