As early as 1936, there was a resolution to build a new hospital in the western part of the city.
Forsyth Memorial Hospital, built on 77 acres at the end of Hawthorne Road at Silas Creek Parkway, was dedicated on this day in 1964.
City residents stood in line to tour the facility and marveled at the spaciousness and modern equipment. The new hospital cost $15 million and had 540 beds.
