The Midway Drive-In Theatre opened on this day in 1952. It was located on Vargrave Street, between Waughtown Street and Stadium Drive.
The theatre was formerly the Park-Vue Theatre.
The opening night double feature was “El Paso,” starring John Payne and Gail Russell, with Gaby Hayes. The second feature was “My Friend Irma Goes West,” starring Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis.
The admission price per car load was $1.00. The first 500 ladies were to receive an orchid corsage, and the children were to receive a free gift.
The other drive-in theatres in the area were: Skyview, Robin Hood, Pilot, King, Walnut Cove, Walkertown, Starlight, and Flamingo.
