The announcement was in the Winston-Salem Journal on this day in 1929 that two new schools were opening soon.
City View School will open on April 8th. It was recently completed at a cost of approximately $40,000.
The second school, Union Cross School, is scheduled to open April 15th.
Both of the new schools will be operated for the remainder of the term, and the smaller schools in the two districts are being abandoned.
The buildings are of the same type of architecture, and are equipped with modern cafeterias, water and lighting facilities.
City View School is known today as Petree Elementary School, shown in the photo above.
