Guy Rucker Dudley was born in Virginia in 1899. He was a World War I veteran, and served as a commander of the Clyde Bolling Post of the American Legion.
Guy was educated at Wake Forest College and the University of Virginia. He came to Winston-Salem from Danville, where he was an officer of the First National Bank. He was elected president of First National Bank of Winston-Salem in 1950, where he had served as vice-president since 1934.
He retired in 1964, and immediately began another job for the National Association of Stock Car Racing and Daytona International Speedway. Two years later, he joined a few other men and organized the Commercial Bank of Gainesville, Florida, and he moved to Gainesville for two years. He returned to Winston-Salem and accepted a financial position with the Royal Cake Company.
Mr. Dudley liked to stay busy, and once commented that he liked the “feeling that I am needed. That is what I would wish for every ‘retired’ person.”
Guy was president and director of the YMCA, president of the R. J. Reynolds High School PTA, and director of the Retail Merchants Association. He was also active in several professional banking associations.
Mr. Dudley passed away in 1975.
