The Winston-Salem Journal headline on March 7, 1963 was “Jayne Hits City Like a Twister.” Staff reporter, Roy Thompson, noted in his article that Jayne had a whirlwind visit to Winston-Salem the previous day, but managed to give several interviews and even danced the twist at the WSJS television studios.
The following day Jayne visited Wake Forest College and sat in on a history class, much to the distraction of the college students.
Jayne was traveling with her husband, Mickey Hargitay, and their two children. Their third child, Mariska (Law & Order: SVU), was born the following year, in 1964. Jayne and Mickey divorced, and Jane was killed in an automobile accident in 1967. Mariska was raised by her father and his third wife.

I remember going to Cook’s Warehouse, I think in 1963, to see Jayne Mansfield and Mickey Hargitay perform. I went with a group of teenagers from King High School. It was a thrill for all of us, especially for the boys.
