An announcement appeared in the Winston-Salem Journal on this date in 1964, advising residents that demolition of two buildings on West Fourth Street was scheduled to begin in two days.
The buildings to be demolished were across from the Winston Theatre, and included the Jewish Synagogue of the Beth-Jacob congregation, and an old frame rooming house at 660-664 West Fourth Street. The building at the left had been a synagogue for 35 years, and was a church for Disciples of Christ before that.
Speculation was that the property would be used for a plush apartment building.
