Kathryn Grayson was born in Winston-Salem in 1922, but was known then as Zelma Kathryn Hedrick of Apple Street.
Her family moved to St. Louis when she was a child and Kathryn later became a teenage movie star with her beautiful soprano voice and good looks. She appeared in several MGM musicals, such as Anchors Aweigh, Show Boat, and Kiss Me Kate.
Kathryn was a featured performer and guest at the 1949 Forsyth County Centennial Celebration. She sang at the Forsythorama, a pageant held at Bowman Gray Stadium, and stood on the review stand during the Centennial Parade with North Carolina Governor Scott and her second husband, Johnny Johnston.
Kathryn made her last movie in 1956, and later appeared in several stage productions. She made her home in Los Angeles, and passed away in 2010.
