Edwin L. Stockton Sr. was born in Salem in 1905. He graduated from R. J. Reynolds High School and Moravian College.
Edwin served as Secretary-Treasurer of the Southern Province of the Moravian Church for 36 years.
He devoted much of his life to the Moravian Church and to his community. For over 34 years he worked to preserve Bethabara, the first Moravian settlement in North Carolina. The new Visitor Center at Historic Bethabara Park was named in his honor in 1986. In the photo above, Stockton is shown at Bethabara Park with the palisade posts in the background.
Edwin Stockton passed away in 1987.
