Thomas Dewitt Meriwether was born in Missouri in 1885. He was educated and trained as a CPA, and he founded the Winston-Salem office of Ernst and Ernst.
In 1931 he joined Hanes Knitting Company and retired in 1952 as executive vice-president, after serving in several positions in the corporation.
In civic affairs, Meriwether was a charter member of Old Town Club. He was president of the Rotary Club, and was a member of the Chamber of Commerce, and the Masonic Order and Shrine.
Meriwether passed away in 1967.
