Dr. Elizabeth Conrad was born in Washington, D. C. in 1920, to Dr. Henry B. and Hally Conrad. Her father was a native of Winston-Salem, a physician, and a veteran of World War I. After the war he settled in South Bend, Indiana and began his practice of medicine, specializing in the diseases of children. He became ill in January, 1920 and died of pneumonia, leaving a young wife and a daughter, just three weeks old.
His daughter, Elizabeth, followed in her father’s footsteps in many ways. She received her medical training at Johns Hopkins, as did her father. She was one of the first three female physicians in North Carolina, and worked as a pediatrician for many years in Winston-Salem.
Dr. Elizabeth Conrad’s grandfather was Dr. William J. Conrad, a well-known local dentist. He was active in the formation of First Baptist Church, the church that Dr. Elizabeth Conrad attended. His family home was in Lewisville, at Hilltop Farm, which later became Elizabeth’s home.
Elizabeth Conrad was interested in training tracking dogs, and grew beautiful roses. She passsed away in January 2013.

Dr. Conrad was the pediatrician selected for my sister, Cathy, and me. We went to her for many years.
Happy late Birthday
Thanks for your comment, Gwynne. I imagine that your mother, with her nursing background, made a very careful selection of your pediatrician.
My brother and I saw Dr. Conrad as patients too. She was quite a personality and very matter of fact. Chauser
