On this date: January 6, 1970. Highland Builders Supply moved its office and showroom to make way for a new McDonald’s Restaurant at 401 Knollwood Street. Highland moved about 520 feet to a new site at 355 Witt Street. A new steel warehouse and three additional offices will be built on Witt Street, providing 6,000 square feet of floor space.
The McDonald’s Restaurant was the third McDonald’s to open in Winston-Salem. The other two were located on Corporation Parkway and Reynolda Road. The McDonald’s on Knollwood Street later moved to a new location at the Thruway Shopping Center, and First Community Bank is located there today.
