On this date: January 5, 1970. Tavern on the Green reopened under the name of Sam’s Tavern on the Green. The restaurant was previously located on N. Cherry-Marshall Street, adjacent to the Playmore Golf Course at 3000 N. Cherry Street. The Tavern closed in July 1969 and the building’s shell was moved to the new location, 503 30th Street, next to Groves Stadium. The building was expanded from 2,000 square feet to 6,000 square feet.
