On this date: January 3, 1839. The town of Bethania was incorporated. There is just a brief entry on this event in the book, With Courage for the Future; The Story of the Moravian Church, Southern Province. The book suggests that there was no further mention of this event in the church records. But the story that accompanies the event is that the town decided to incorporate to protect itself against strong and overbearing Moravian ministers, after an unpleasant experience with such a minister.
Bethania was founded in 1759, and celebrated its 250th anniversary in 2009. As the oldest municipality in Forsyth County, Bethania reinacted its 1839 town charter and incorporated in 1995.
